In 1969 and 1970 I went on a yearlong trip by Land Rover from England to India, Ceylon and Nepal and back, camping along the way. The trips across Iran and Afghanistan left an indelible impression on me; I modeled my fictional country of Behruz on those two countries as they were then.
Here are some pictures from my travels to help you visualize the landscape and the people of Behruz as you make your own journey while reading my books.
My fellow travellers who show up in some of the pictures are: my brother, Dennis, his wife, Dana, my then-husband, John, and a couple, Richard and Caroline, who joined us on the return trip across Afghanistan after serving in the Peace Corps in Africa.
